One of my favorite winter paintings, done from a photo taken near Granby, Colorado.
I love this area of Colorado and the beautiful red Willow bushes along the creeks in the winter.
It was a lot of fun to paint the contrast between the red Willow bushes, the blue of the thawing creek and the many nuances of white in the snow. The pastel strokes were layered over a bright orange background, which still shows through the shrubs.

Home for the Holidays! The buyer brought this painting over today to be varnished.
It had been sold fresh off the easel during last year's Open Studios. I did not even have a photo of it. I like it. This is a different, looser approach than most of my paintings. It is nice to have it home for a couple of days.

It seems that I just can't get enough of these orchid paintings. My beautiful white orchid plant seems to be enjoying the attention and put out new buds during the past week. Many of my orchid and bird paintings can be seen at the Canyon Gallery of the Boulder Public Library during the Boulder Solstice Holiday Exhibit and Sale. Please see the flier below. Also, please view my web site for more images and exhibits.
