"Kauai Rooster Quartet" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on board, 4 images, 5" x 5" each, mounted on a 2" deep, gallery wrapped, painted canvas, $375.-
I finally put the boys together on one canvas. The paintings were inspired by our trip to Kauai in May, where the beautiful roosters and chickens are abundant, and noisy, crowing at all times of the day and night.

"Orange Poppy #11" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on linen board, 8"x 8".
I am still having fun with poppies. This is yesterday's painting. I am going to work on it a little more, softening edges here and there and adding some blues to the background. I love the light shining through the petals of these beautiful flowers!

"Orange Poppy #10" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on linen panel, 12" x 12", $ 375.-
I painted this poppy yesterday. Taking a photograph of it today was a little challenge because of the bright colors. The background is a little more of a blue gray.
I love painting flowers. It cheers me up and I hope it does the same for you.
Most of the poppies in our yard are done blooming for the year. There are only five buds left to open. Lets see what we can make of them!

"Waneka Lake Morning" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas paper, mounted on gatorboard 7" x 9", $75.-
A beautiful morning of plein air painting with a wonderful group of artists from the Louisville Art Association. What a great way to start the day!
I love color. There is so much to discover about color when painting in the natural light outside. Now, if I could only get out of bed a little earlier!

"Storm Clouds over Westcliffe" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on board, 5" x 7 ', $85.-
News of the fire in Westcliffe and the rainy weather 2 days ago inspired this painting of the Sangre de Cristos near Westcliffe, Colorado.
So glad to hear that this fire in now 75% contained. What a beautiful area!
I am planning a larger painting of this scene in Pastel.

"Red and Yellow Iris" by Astrid Paustian

Watercolor, 15" x 11", sold.
I painted this Iris after a visit to our local, historic, Iris farm. Longs Gardens in Boulder welcomes visitors, painters and photographers. I visit there every year and have left with beautiful Iris plants for our garden, plain air paintings, and hundreds of reference photos.
This painting has been sold but is available as print at Fine Art America.

"Magpie" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas, 8" x 10", $275.-
Magpies are not loved by everyone. I enjoy watching these intelligent and elegant birds. Magpie numbers have decreased in our area, probably due to the West Nile outbreaks of the last few years.
I had fun working on this painting, especially playing with the background colors, as you can see.

"You have a Ball?" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas board, 8" x 8"
I painted this portrait of our dog, Katie, 3 days ago, as a gift for my husband. He is the most patient "guardian" for this troubled animal, who had been abused as a puppy and acts very aggressive towards strangers and other dogs. She is the most devoted dog towards him and the entire family in return.
You can view more of my paintings on my web site. I would be happy to paint a portrait of your pet also.

"Pink Poppy #2" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on board, 5" x 5', $85.-
The flowers are blooming everywhere in our yard. I love this early summer abundance.
While working on other subjects, like plein air paintings and pet portraits, I treat myself to small flower paintings and the quiet contemplation of their simple shapes and beautiful colors. Poppies are still a favorite.

"Little Orange Poppy" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on board, 5" x 5", $85.-
Another one of the poppies found last summer in Grand Lake, Colorado. I wish I knew the name of these poppies. Will have to do a little research into this subject. I am impressed by their graceful shapes and vibrant colors.

"Poppy Ballet" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on panel, 5" x 5", $85.-
I painted these poppies 2 days ago, from a photograph taken at Grand Lake, Colorado, last summer. They were swaying in a gentle summer breeze, graceful, like the dancers in a ballet.
I have been wanting to paint them for some time now, and will probably paint some larger poppy paintings as well.
