"Chickadee # 6" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on Canvas, 6" x 6", $ 95.-
This painting was done last week from a photo taken in September among the Sunflowers in our garden. It is one in a series of 100 Birds that I hope to complete before the end of the year.
Our yard is currently bustling with birds and I can't wait to do some more sketching and photographing. Always amazed by their beauty, resilience and the wonderful songs.

"Guanella Pass Aspen" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas, 14" x 11", sold.
Aspens and Autumn, a favorite combination. Guanella Pass in September is a wonderful place to explore and photograph the many shades of gold that the Colorado Landscape displays in the fall.
This painting has been sold, but I invite you to view many more Aspen paintings, along with flowers and wildlife paintings, at the Art Center of Estes Park and on my web site.

"Northern Flicker" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas panel, 10" x 8 ", $275.-
Spring is in full swing in our back yard and the bird bath is a busy attraction for all kinds of birds. The resident pair of Northern Flickers is looking for a new nesting place since we had to cut down the old and ailing willow tree last winter. I do hope they find a suitable home.
I love observing and painting birds, always impressed by their beauty and resilience.

"Tulips" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas, 8" x 8", $150.-
Tulips are some of my favorite flowers. I love their simple shapes and bold colors, especially when the sun shines through the delicate petals.
I am always amazed how the hardy blooms withstand the ever changing spring weather, opening during sunny days and closing back up at night and during snow storms.
As I happily anticipate spring and all the wonderful subjects to paint, tragedy persists in Japan and other parts of the world.
All profits from the sale of this painting will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross.

Painting continues around the 2 " deep edges.
Another one of my chick paintings. There are 7 so far and there will be many more.
Still fascinated by these little creatures, only 2 days old with lots of personality and attitude. I think I will call the series "Chicks with Attitudes".
You can view several of these chick paintings and many more floral and wildlife paintings at the Art Center of Estes Park. Also, please visit my web site at www.astridpaustian.com

"Curious" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on gallery wrapped canvas, painted around the 2" deep edges, $85.
Spring is here and the chicks have arrived at the feed stores. I have to resist the urge to go and bring some of them home. We're not ready yet for our own chicken coop. Next year, hopefully.
This is one of the 2 day old chicks that arrived in the mail one day at our friends Michelle and Tim's little family farm in Longmont. It is grown now, well cared for and loved by the whole family in return for some delicious eggs.
The painting is one of a series of chick paintings and currently hangs at the Art Center of Estes Park during my exhibit.

"Spread Your Wings" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on Canvas, 8" x 8', $225.-
This painting is fresh off the easel today. I was excited by the movement in the reference photo, taken last year in our garden. I took photos of the young Gold Finches, as they were learning how to extract seeds from the Sunflower blossoms, perching on the stems or the large blossoms, while swaying in the wind.

"Munson's Flower Patch" by Astrid Paustian

Pastel, 11" x 15", matted and framed to 16" x 20", $275.-
Plein Air Painting season has begun, well, at least for those of us who still find painting in the snow a challenge. This painting was done en plein air a couple of summers ago at a local organic farm in Boulder. There is a large patch of flowers that customers can visit to cut their own bouquet. Painters are also welcome, and my friend and I spent a wonderful morning painting the colorful Zinnias and Cosmos.

"Blue and White Iris" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas, 10" x 8", $275.-
The warm temperatures of the past 2 days and the bird activity in the yard, seem to confirm that Spring is definitely on it's way. While the new Crocus painting is drying, I am posting this Iris painting. It is framed in a beautiful, but simple black frame, and hangs at the Art Center of Estes Park during my current show.

"Do Not Disturb" by Astrid Paustian

Pastel, 9" x 12", framed to 12" x 16", $ 275.-
The past 2 cold, gray days made me want to curl up like this Arctic Fox.
I found a photo of him yesterday, among those taken at a recent visit to the Denver Zoo. White is a fascinating and challenging color to paint. I am also working on another painting of this fox in oil.

"Bear Creek Path" by Astrid Paustian

Pastel, 11" x 15", sold.
Thinking of summer walks and plein air painting. Will bring out the colorful pastel sticks for some quick, loose sketches. It is always a lot of fun.
I enjoy switching back and forth between mediums. It changes the approach and adds a fresh new perspective.

"Red Poppies" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas panel, 11" x 14", sold.
Flowers are such a welcome sight after the long Winter months. Poppies won't be blooming for another 2 months, and, sadly, they don't last very long. So it's good to have some photographs and paintings on hand.
This painting has been sold, but many more Poppies, flower paintings, landscapes and bird paintings of mine are currently on display at the Art Center of Estes Park.
To see more of these paintings, you can also visit my web site.

"Now, where did I leave my towel?" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas, 7" x 9", $95.-
Spring is in the Air! On this sunny, warm day there is a lot of bird activity in our yard and at the bird bath. I took a picture of this little fellow a couple of years ago, impressed by his self confident attitude, splashing in the water while surrounded by about 6 or 7 Robins, who were gathered around the rim of the birdbath, awaiting their turn.
