Another painting to go to the Art Center of Estes Park in about 9 days. I am enjoying the challenge to paint every day and to try and complete a painting during that time. Painting daily is a good habit and fun to look forward to.

Day 4, February Daily Painting Challenge

Oil paintings require more planning than acrylic works, considering drying times and conditions for varnish application. 

Oil paint, however, is still my favorite medium for color blending.

Today's experiment with the decorative qualities of acrylic glazes.

   I do enjoy the glazing and stenciling techniques possible in acrylics.

   Because of their transparency and drying speed, acrylic paints are an ideal medium for layering colors  and for creating textures.

February Daily Painting Challenge

I decided to revive this old blog and challenge myself to publishing daily paintings throughout the month of February 2023. This is another version of a painting that I enjoyed creating in December of last year.

With this new mixed media approach, the results are often surprising and every painting turns out differently.

I have been feeling a little color deprived after the long, cold winter. Who am I kidding, I just love color. What better thing to do than play with vibrant hues and texture? Autumn Tree Study

                                                 and today's study in oil, 20" x 20".
Some subjects are definitely worth revisiting, such as this beautiful tree off Niwot Road in Boulder.
I came across an image of the watercolor study that I did years ago.
I still love this old cottonwood, and the watercolor version of it.
It will be fun to turn it into a full size oil painting on a gallery wrapped canvas. For added interest, I may try to extend the tree's shadow into the foreground.
