Joyful
Joyful, pastel, 14" x 14". I have spent a week with my old pastel sticks and paper. I had fun today, after an initial struggle and coping with the dust. A quick medium to put down ideas and observations on paper.

Day 20 of the February Daily Painting Challenge
New Beginnings, oil painting in progress on 16" x 16" cradled panel.
The painting is coming along, but need more definition and branches etc.
The drawback of painting in oil is, that the paint will be too tacky to continue working on for a couple of days.
I plan to let it sit and work on some other pieces.

Day 19 of the February Daily Painting Challenge
After doing a few quick wintry sketches, I decided to focus on Spring again. New Beginnings will be an oil painting on 16" x 16" cradled panel, and maybe a pastel painting as well. The inspiration is the little sketch of a Bluebell Forest in Belgium. Aspens and Bluebells? Why not!

Day 16 of the February Daily Painting Challenge
Another bird painting in progress. Acrylic on 12" x 12" cradled panel.
It is missing something, probably a few trees. Also, the color scheme needs some changes.

Day 14 of the February Daily Painting Challenge
Red and Blue, acrylic on cradled panels, 5" x 6" each
I am experimenting with acrylic textures. These were created utilizing plastic wrap. Of course, texture is somewhat difficult to spot in a photo.

Day 7 of the February Daily Painting Challenge
Tufted, acrylic, 6" x 6" cradled panel. Today the birds finally discovered the suet I hung during the recent arctic cold spell. I can see the feeders from my studio. A reference photo helped too, of course.

Day 6, February Daily Painting Challenge
Vibrant, acrylic, 11" x 14". A good start, or is it finished? It may need a few glazes to tame the colors a little bit...

Day 5, February Daily Painting Challlenge
Another painting to go to the Art Center of Estes Park in about 9 days. I am enjoying the challenge to paint every day and to try and complete a painting during that time. Painting daily is a good habit and fun to look forward to.

Day 4, February Daily Painting Challenge
Aspen Contemplations #1, oil on gallery wrapped canvas 20" x 20".
Putting the finishing touches on some paintings headed for the Art Center of Estes Park in 10 days. artcenterofestes.com
Oil paintings require more planning than acrylic works, considering drying times and conditions for varnish application.
Oil paint, however, is still my favorite medium for color blending.

Day 2, February Daily Painting Challenge
Dusk to Dawn, Mixed Media, 10.75" x 14.75"
I do enjoy the glazing and stenciling techniques possible in acrylics.
Because of their transparency and drying speed, acrylic paints are an ideal medium for layering colors and for creating textures.
