"Chicks" by Astrid Paustian

Oil on gallery wrapped canvas, the upper 2 paintings are 5" x 5', the lower painting is 8" x8".

Happy Easter, Happy Passover, and most of all a happy spring everyone!
Easter has always been a joyful holiday at our house, as we celebrate this beautiful season of growth and renewal.
These are some of several chick paintings done from photographs taken at our friends little family farm. I love these beautiful, fluffy creatures, who amaze me with their personalities and resilience even at the tender age of only 2 days!

Tulips are starting to bloom in our garden. They are among my favorite flowers, especially the apricot colored and multi-colored varieties. I love the way the light shines through the beautiful but hardy petals. Also, I am always amazed with their resilience, adapting successfully to all kinds of springtime weather conditions.

With the Easter holiday just around the corner, chicks and chickens are on my mind.
I love this time of year and Easter has always been a wonderful celebration of Spring at our home, with a big Easter egg hunt, and the laughter of delighted children in our large backyard.
Pearl is a happy chicken. Hand raised, free range and hand fed, she is loved by her whole family, our neighbors.

"Stiefmuetterchen" by Astrid Paustian

Watercolor, 9" x 11", sold.
Pansies are called Stiefmuetterchen , or stepmothers, in German.
Flowers are popping up everywhere in the garden. I am bringing out my watercolors and oils, ready for some flower paintings. I do like to switch from one medium to another from time to time. It always gives me a fresh perspective and a new, creative approach to a particular subject.

"Pink and Purple Iris " by Astrid Paustian

Oil on canvas, 10" x 8", $275.-
The Iris plants are growing a lot these past few days and bring the promise of many beautiful flowers in our garden. We are fortunate to live near an Iris farm, Longs Gardens in Boulder. Since we bought our home here many years ago, we have made an almost annual trip to the farm, where we can select and dig up large clumps of Iris plants and transplant them to our home garden. The result is a magnificent display every year in May. Longs gardens is a beautiful place to visit. For more information, click here.
